BCS Jump Rope for Heart 2013 Jan. 23&25
Dear parents of participants,
Good physical fitness, achieved through lifelong physical education activities which should begin early in childhood, is important to everyone. Through a variety of physical education activities your child is learning the importance of exercise and the importance of cardiovascular fitness.
In conjunction with the Michigan Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, we will be promoting physical fitness through the Jump Rope for Heart Program which will benefit the American Heart Association of Michigan. The event will be held during physical education classes on Jan. 23rd and 25th. To help ensure safety, participants will work together in teams. Participants should secure flat donations based on a 45 minute class period. Suggestions for sponsors include friends, family, familiar neighbors, parental colleagues, etc. For safety reasons, we do NOT encourage students to solicit pledges from people they do not know. Through the Jump Rope for Heart event, participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of jumping rope as a cardiovascular fitness exercise to help keep hearts healthy. They will also have the opportunity to educate the public on the benefits of jumping rope when they ask for pledges. In addition, their participation will help keep all hearts healthy since the proceeds from the event will benefit the research, education, and community service programs of the American Heart Association of Michigan.
Students have the opportunity to win prizes for their participation in Jump Rope for Heart. This year's prizes include water bottles, jump ropes, t-shirts, playground balls, bungee jumpers, and others. We do our best to emphasize the idea that the students should not participate merely to earn prizes, but to do something good for others.
Jump Rope for Heart will also be an excellent opportunity for you to be involved. Come and cheer during the event, or sign up where indicated below if you are interested in helping.
Sincerely, Bill Johansson; Chris Manchester Event Coordinators
