The end of the year party will be on Thursday, June 14, 2012. The 3/4 graders will have the school to themselves as 5/6 and 7/8 have off-site celebrations. The students will rotate through various pre-planned activities with volunteers stationed at each activity. You will not be rotating with the students, but working at one station. Our class has been assigned to the gym. The last shift is to help keep the ice cream bar running smoothly.

Positions still needed:
1 volunteer from 10:00-11:40 (gym)
1 volunteer from 12:-1:40 (gym)
1 volunteer from 1-2:30 (ice cream bar)

Contact Teresa Rea reatersa@gmail.com if you are able to volunteer.

Thank you!

Field Trip, May 25th. Reading to the Seniors! 10am-10:45am

Please read below:

On May 31, 2012, Birmingham Public Schools will host a downlink with the International Space Station (ISS). This is a HUGE honor – only six organizations were selected to participate for this expedition! Approximately twenty students will be able to ask questions of Flight Engineer Joe Acaba LIVE as he orbits the Earth on the ISS (it’s kind of like a SKYPE conversation….). The downlink will take place in the Seaholm High School auditorium, and all students in Birmingham Public Schools will be able to watch it live on TV or the internet (more info coming soon on this). There is room in the auditorium for about 600 students (grades 3 - 12). These 600 students will also participate in a series of science learning experiences in the Seaholm gym on that day. If the committee chooses a question from a student from our class, then the entire class will be allowed to participate in the expedition!
Lance Williams’ question was chosen and he will ask it during the SKYPE activity. Our entire class gets to participate in the expedition!

I will be provided with more information regarding the expedition on May 3rd, but until then here is some information that may be helpful for you to know:

• On May 31, the students in my class are invited to Seaholm for the day (there will not be room in the auditorium for additional guests).

• In addition to the downlink, there will be many activities during the day at Seaholm.

• All participants will need to bring a sack lunch with them – including a drink.

• The district is arranging for bus transportation to and from Seaholm on May 31. We don’t have exact times yet, but we plan on leaving school around 9:00 am and returning to school around 2:30 pm.

•Thank You,
Morris Wallington
