The end of the year party will be on Thursday, June 14, 2012. The 3/4 graders will have the school to themselves as 5/6 and 7/8 have off-site celebrations. The students will rotate through various pre-planned activities with volunteers stationed at each activity. You will not be rotating with the students, but working at one station. Our class has been assigned to the gym. The last shift is to help keep the ice cream bar running smoothly.

Positions still needed:

Thank you!

Field Trip, May 31st!!!
Field Trip June 1st!!

Please read below:

Hello everyone,
I have some sad news to share with you. NASA notified me this morning that they are postponing our downlink again. The Space X launch this morning (http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/cypresscreek/news/space-x-launches-first-mission-to-the-international-space-station/article_9f83fa9a-a41f-11e1-94c9-0019bb2963f4.html) has disrupted the schedule for the ISS crew and Mission Control. May 31 is now the date that the Falcon 9 rocket will be undocking from the ISS, so the crew will be busy facilitating that historic event.

We don’t know everything about what happens next, but this is what we do know:

• We will proceed with our events on May 31, including an assembly with guest speaker Andrew Humphrey (Channel 4 Meteorologist, U of M and MIT graduate, and former NASA research scientist http://www.andrewhumphrey.com/bio.html ). This assembly will still be broadcast to all classrooms in the district. It will be from 9:50 – 10:50 am. More details will be coming on how to access it.

• Our community evening, Expedition 2012, will still take place on May 31 from 5-7 pm in the gym at Seaholm. Please encourage everyone in your school community to attend!

• If you are one of the classrooms that was attending the activities at Seaholm, everything will proceed as planned on May 31.

• The actual downlink with the International Space Station will still take place – sometime between June and December of 2012 (but not during the summer). I am working on that with NASA now. For the downlink, we will have the twenty students who are asking questions come to Seaholm (but not their whole class) and we will broadcast that 20 minute downlink to all classrooms in the district. More information will follow as soon as I have it.

Basically, get ready for a fantastic day on May 31! There will be many great experiences for students to learn about science and engineering – this is what it means to inspire learning!

Thanks for all you do, and send a huge thank you to the BEF for all they are doing to sponsor and organize this event!

Jennifer
